Good afternoon, from bright and sunny Tokyo!
Today is the festival of Tanabata!
Tanabata is a Japanese festival that celebrates the meeting of two sacred beings, Orihime and Hikoboshi. According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. Traditionally Japanese people write a wish on a small piece of paper called tanzaku, and hang them on a wish tree.
Coincidently, yesterday at my work, I was asked to participate in the festival – and I actually got a Rilakkuma tanzaku to write my wish on!!
My co-workers wishes!
This is a pretty neat festival, and I’m happy I got to learn about it more this year. I participated in it in 2011, I was coming from the gym and I saw a bunch of people dressed in traditional clothing hanging paper from a tree, so naturally I asked what was going on. They told me to write a wish and hang it from the tree as well – and I must admit, my very very very big wish came true that year! So heres hoping for the same luck this year, Im confident I will get what I wished for ^^
All that being said, I cant help but feel romantic about this story! Since it is a star themed holiday, who else could be better to celebrate with other than the Zodiac Rilakkuma series?
This is my Scorpio and Sagittarius kumas, representing my star sign and my fiancée’s! Scorpio Rila seems to gaze lovingly at her Sagitarius partner … I often have that same look of love for my Saggitarius partner, too 😉
